The update process is different from Apple. Google releases the new version and historically it has been nexus that has gotten the updates first since they are google products. The S3 was made by Samsung so the update has to go through Samsung to your carrier then to your phone then you get your update which usually takes at least months. If you are on Verizon then the wait is probably going to be really long.
