So I decided rather than to just go over a bunch of tools and tell explain what they can do I decided to start making a model and then from there just explain what I was doing as I did it. This is part one of several. After creating the model using textures from www.cgtextures.com I’ll apply the textures and using the “UVW Map” modifier I’ll scale them without actually doing any UVW Unwrap. Some shortcuts to make things easier: Ctrl + R to get the rotate view up.. In the top right corner of the view port you can also click the little house icon to reset the view port to default perspective view, or the cube. T – Top view B – Bottom view L – Left view P Perspective (because rotating out of one of the above 3 gives you orthographic which is horrible. How do I make it so I can see every line or segment on my model like you have? I’ve currently got one solid green house and it’s annoying me!
great tutorial! but I have a small problem, how do you get back from editable poly to cylinder parameters in 13:57? thanks for answer
ok perfect, thanks a lot man! I shall be a frequent visitor.
Why don’t you take a look at part 6.
How do I use materials on this house? As its one object, i cannot individually choose a specific materials, for the roof, for example. Cheers for the great video though!!
7 people don’t know what 3D Max is, they thought it was a game or something. Thanks for the tutorial, I was actually doing it the hard the way.
id did not devide into 2 parts
1. Shift + Backspace
2.The capture software didn’t capture the diologue box i was messing with, at 8:10 its bottom left corner of the screen. Basically click on the number 10 and u can move your mouse back and forth to increase/decrease the number.
Need some help, can somebody help me?:
1. When I delete an edge, I delete the face too 3:42
2.- How do you shrink it at 8:19, I can’t edit the polygon after the window “extrude polygon”
Thank you, this video was really useful, though!
i cant use the x y z QQ to make the roof oso vertex , this version is autodesk 3ds max 2012 .?
For some reason I can’t see the white lines running through the shape
really nice tutorial, clear fixes etc
2 story as in two floors.
what do you mean by 2 and single story?
the part at 4:39 I can’t get rid of the edges I just can’t select them at all? I’m using 2012
You’d want to create a couple variants in the model and textures (2 and single story etc etc).
do you think if I built this fully would it pass of as a village if I created multiple of these? I’m going for a Nordic theme as well
I have used both programs extensively and must say 3ds max is much better , but comes with a hefty price tag
Well I think so but obviously im biased…
is this software better than blender??
Spread the word
yea that seems to be the shape of it, every other autodesk product doesn’t have this problem and type in isn’t always ideal same as moveing things on the viewport that ur not looking at. Fortunatley… i found a way round this …. i made a plane that covered the grid, subdivided until it match the grid. rotated it pushed it bk and up so it was on the bk line of the grid, froze it and enabled snap to Grid points and lines, frozen ob, edges and verticies. and wallah! Z axiz you can snap to.
